Version 10.7.5:This update is recommended for all OS X Lion users and includes general operating system fixes that improve the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac.
It also includes Gatekeeper, a new security feature that helps you keep your Mac safe from malicious software by giving you more control over what apps are installed on your Mac.Includes fixes that:. Resolve an issue where icons in Launchpad may get rearranged after a restart.
Improve Wi-Fi reliability for iMac (Late 2009 and newer). Resolve an issue using Spotlight to search an SMB server. Improve compatibility connecting to Active Directory servers. This is the worst version of Mac OS X to date.
First off they removed support for the Apple USB Modem by simply not writing a 64-bit wrapper for the 32-bit driver. I paid $50 for it a couple years ago and now it's worthless. They also removed iSync. This is a blatant move to make it harder to sync any phone with Lion than an Apple phone. The application still works if you move it from Snow Leo to Lion so there is absolutely no other reason for this.Autosave and versions are implemented terribly. There is good versioning software out there and Apple should have copied what works instead of writing this steaming pile and then giving me no controls to disable it. Apple thinks they know what's best for me so I have to do it there way or hit the highway.Apple's answer to the no longer included Samba, the netbiosd daemon, is a complete disaster.
Windows file sharing is now completely broken. This daemon runs all the time weather I initiate any kind of SMB service or not and if you have Little Snitch installed and use a public wifi it will drive you insane.Thank god I did a clean install on an external hard drive rather than installing over Snow Leo on my internal. It was easy to revert back to SL.I have sent Apple more feedback over this release of OS X than I have cumulatively previous to trying to use Lion.I don't care about Launchbad and gestures I can take it or leave it but this 'update' takes control from the user and I will not tolerate that. This may be my last version of OS X, and my last Mac, after being a dedicated user since the 80s. Windows is just not that bad of an alternative anymore. In summary, Lion is a disaster. Give me back my Mac, if I want an iPhone or iPad I'll go buy one!
'According to Web metrics firm Net Applications, Snow Leopard accounted for 27% of all copies of OS X used to access the Internet in March. The 2009 operating system has resisted retirement, and in fact powered more Macs last month than OS X Lion, its 2011 successor.'
Does this fact say about the quality of Lion? I finally downgraded to Snow Leopard. Had to replace or abandon only 2 of my carefully selected apps that I had upgraded to full Lion compatibility. All serious stability issues disappeared, indicating it was not caused by hardware.
10.7.5 Combo updater has messed up up all 3 iMac 3.4GHZ i7 SSD 16GB Ram I upgraded from 10.7.4.-The worse nightmare of all:Spotlight has become DEAD slow to index main boot SSD with only 45gb used 203 free, it shows 3 days with 10.7.4 it was doing it in less than 10 minutes.I killed and relaunched spotlight, cleared old index, set only Boot drive marking all other drive including Timemachine with PRIVACY and tried most of the trick, same issue on the 3 computers I can't fix it. (Reset PRAM,Repair Perm run Diskwarrior, Reapplied 1075 combo)Therefore Timemachine is also now veryslow when Spotlight is trying to index the main drive (even after excluding all drive and timemachine via Privacy)- In the dock all shortcuts for folders and file from my NAS are becoming faceless with a question mark after each restart.
Clicking on them re-activate the icon until the next restart. (DiskStation DS212+ Synology connected via AFP), Synology might have to update their software, I guess.- Fast User Switching is activated by default top right of menu bar, it can be cleared via User& Group, clicking on Login Option and deslecting Show fast user switching menu. Is it me or 10.7.5 did NOT deliver for us stuck on older hardware.Let me elaborate.First off Finder issues that have been plauging the system since 10.7.0 namely the inabilty to zoom list-view mode windows properly and 'automatic' column sizing in double clicking the appropriate boundary between name and size columns for example are just to name few of the ones that stand out.
These may be small nuisances at first glance, but things like these made OSX what it is today.elegance and attention to detail. Then there's the HUGE performance drop when it comes to GRAPHICS performance and specifically to openGL. I've tested this on 2 different systems separated by more than 5 years, a MacBookPro2,2 (C2D 2.33 15.4'), as well as an iMac11,1 (i5 4cores 2.66 27') only to find out that both NovaBench and OpenGL extensions viewer yield substantially lower results in the graphics sector which is also apparent during the tests (i.e. Lower fps counters and all).I've not gone into extensive benchmarking using game's timedemos and all, but still this is indicative of the trend Apple's unfortunately chose to go towards. For the time being i feel let down by this.
